ABOUT

Nina Hölscher was born in 1989 in Ahlen, Germany. She started making music and acting in her early years. She started playing the piano at the age of four and four years later she joined her first choir, which was well known for its musicals. At the age of 8 she performed in her first musical. There she made her first singing and acting experiences on stage. When Nina was 14 years old she started playing the violin.

While singing mainly classical and musical repertoire, her personal musical interests in her teens were in rock and punk music. She started to expand her repertoire, wrote her own compositions for the piano and performed them on stage.

She started performing a lot from the age of 10. She joined different ensembles, classical choirs and other projects, with whom she got to perform in Germany, but also beyond, including in India and Tanzania. When Nina was 16 years old she decided to make music her profession.

After graduating from high school in 2009, she began her studies in musical theater at the Stage School in Hamburg, Germany. She finished after two years and started working as a singer. To deepen her knowledge in the field of voice, she decided to study speech and language therapy at the Hanzehogeschool in Groningen, Netherlands, commencing in 2012. Her main focus was on voice therapy. While doing two internships in Germany of each six months each, she could improve her skills in this topic. She also did a research on singing in dementia therapy for her bachelor’s thesis. While studying she gave voice and speaking lessons to a group of amateur actors. In 2016 she graduated with a Bachelor of Science.

During her studies in Groningen she became interested in jazz music and started to learn this new technique of singing as well as improving her piano skills. She also started studying the trumpet.

After finishing her studies Nina focused on her career as a musician and actress, in both the Netherlands and in Germany. Besides occasional jobs as a singer and actor she founded a jazz duo called JazzTuon, joined Nina and the Nashcats and put a solo cabaret-program together. While developing her own style via combining classical, musical theater, chanson, cabaret and jazz, she joined lots of different musical projects, which are as diverse as her personality.

After finishing her studies Nina worked as a part time voice therapist and speech and language therapist in Germany. She left this job to go to New York City, USA, for half a year to study acting, jazz and musical theater.

She received acting lessons from Michael Ryan of the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute, New York, also working on method acting. She also took voice lessons with various teachers of different genres, among others from Bruce Baumer, who taught her in musical and Beltvoice.

Through staying in NYC Nina got a good impression on the current musical, acting and jazz scenes in the United States, which she brought with her back to Europe.

Since nearly 10 years Nina has been giving singing lessons to people of all ages. Her main focus lies on classical voice, musical singing, cabaret, chanson and belt, which is useful for pop and rock music.

She also gives private voice therapy lessons to professional- and non-professional singers, actors, spokespersons, voice-over artists and people who have problems with the correct use of the voice. During the therapy sessions she works on how to speak on stage, in front of people or just on general improvement of voice and speaking skills.
